Oil and gasoline prices are front and center of the news this election year, and for good reason. The recent rise in prices is a huge economic problem for just about every American, and our dependency on foreign sources of oil is even a national security concern. Let’s look at how a tax on the oil suppliers, the “Windfall Profits Tax” would effect the price of gas at the pump for all Americans.
That’s Not My MessThis opinion piece is a reaction to a CNBC.com article that couches Americans’ lack of fiscal responsibility in neat phrases like “housing recession.” Those of us who are parents like to teach our kids about personal responsibility, at least I like to think other parents want to do this too. The problem is the actions of adults in government and community leadership positions so often tend to put that lesson into practice only when it’s convenient, and living by this lesson is not fashionable right now.
