I’m getting my masters in Financial Economics right now so I decided I’d take a crack at summarizing this as simply as possible for those who don’t understand why what’s happening is happening. Perhaps, the CEO of Best Buy said it best, “. . .it’s like a seismic event, the consumer just dropped off the planet and stopped buying.” Indeed, this is what many retailers are saying and it’s pretty obvious why this is happening. Consumer Confidence is at the lowest point ever measured, why? Well, it is because during the 21-months of campaigning over half of it was spent telling everyone how bad the economy was. Without positive re-enforcement the American Consumer is not confident of any near term economic recovery.
